Daniel Vicario, M.D.

Dr. Vicario was born and raised in Northern California. At the age of seven he moved to Argentina with his family. He did his schooling in Buenos Aires and received his "Bachiller" degree with honors at the "Colegio Champagnat". In 1983 he received his M.D. degree graduating with honors "suma cum laude" from the University of Buenos Aires, School of Medicine, in Argentina. After graduating, he returned to California. He received an appointment as Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, CA, from 1984 to 1985. Then he moved to Southern California where he did his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of California at Irvine (1985 to 1988). He was asked to serve as Chief Medical Resident for an extra year, from 1988 to 1989.

From 1989 to 1992 he was a Fellow in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He was then appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine from 1992 to 1994 at UCSD. He has maintained a Voluntary position as Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSD since 1994.

His research interests at UCSD and publications have focused on the treatment of advanced Head and Neck Cancers with Highly Selective intra-arterial chemotherapy infusions, Immunotherapy of Hematological Malignancies, comprehensive therapy of GU malignancies, and improving quality of life of patients with the challenge of cancer.

Dr. Vicario is Board Certified both in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

In 1994 Dr. Vicario joined the Medical Group of North County and was co-founder, with Dr. Mark J. Adler, of the San Diego Cancer Center, where he is a senior partner.

Dr. Vicario also co-founded with Dr. Adler the San Diego Cancer Research Institute in the year 2000, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and conducting research and the development of innovative cancer therapies to improve the care and quality of life for cancer patients. Dr. Vicario is a pioneer in the research of mind-body medicine -- the influence of the human spirit on the healing process and in Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Vicario has served the San Diego community in a wide variety of non-profit health care related functions.
- Former Medical Director of Sharp Hospice for four years and Hospice of the North Coast for five years.
- He serves as Chairman, Cancer Committee, Tri- City Medical Center, Oceanside, CA.
- Member, Professional Advisory Board and speaker for Survivorship San Diego since 1998
- Member, Professional Advisory Board, and Board of Directors of The Wellness Community San Diego, a non-profit organization supporting San Diegans affected by cancer from 1995 till 2001
- Former Chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Tri-City Medical Center, Oceanside, CA.
- Board Member of the American Cancer Society, San Diego.

In 1999 Dr. Vicario was the recipient of the annual CHAD Health Hero Awards for his "dedication and commitment to better health for the residents of San Diego County." In 2006 he received the Channel 10 News Leadership Award for the creation of the Integrative Medicine Program. In 2008 Dr. Vicario was recipient of the "Health Care Champion Award" by the San Diego Business Journal.

Dr. Vicario enjoys teaching medical students, medical residents, fellows, other physicians, nurses, medical staff and sharing information and knowledge with patients with cancer. Dr. Vicario feels that his patients are and have always been his real and true teachers.
